7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. This in-depth seminar is designed to acquaint new business teachers with exciting ways to create effective learning activities that will engage their students. Participants will explore a myriad of instructional materials for teaching business subjects, learn about creative teaching methods and techniques, and become familiar with where and how to locate resources for instructional and student use. Participants will receive a binder of resource materials. A continental breakfast will be provided. Participation is limited to teachers who have taught not longer than three (3) years and/or students preparing to be business teachers.

Virtual assistants (VAs) have seized the moment developing their own business ventures to perform administrative tasks on an entrepreneurial basis. This presentation addresses the scope of virtual assistants, educational programs, and how the VA field provides a unique opportunity for growth. Technological advances provide different ways to keep organized and communicate. The advances have significantly affected and molded society. Therefore, it seems that more technology is necessary to keep moving forward and “stay ahead of the game.” With e-mail overload, people not following technology etiquette, and the need to not let technology take over your life (technological management), strategies are necessary. These strategies will be discussed and audience participation will be encouraged. This is a two-part professional development seminar. On Wednesday, learn to capture the moment by improving your on-location photography skills. Attendees must bring their own digital cameras to shoot pictures in the hotel and on the Magnificent Mile (around the hotel). On Friday you will have the opportunity to edit the photos you took in PhotoShop. Bring your ideas, energy and a way to download your camera images to a jump drive. On Wednesday you will have the opportunity to sign up for the Friday PhotoShop session.

Web 2.0 tools create new exciting ways for students and teachers to connect and share their ideas. Students are empowered to express themselves and teachers can easily expand the boundaries of the classroom. This presentation will explore the many ways that blogs and wikis, two popular Web 2.0 tools, are transforming and expanding the classroom. Participants will leave with tools and examples to implement the use of blogs and wikis immediately upon returning to the classroom.
