Privacy Policy

Protecting your personal information is a priority of the National Business Education Association (NBEA). This Privacy Policy explains how NBEA collects, uses, shares, and protects information obtained through NBEA websites, membership systems, online communities, programs, products, and services (collectively, the “Services”). Unless otherwise noted, references to NBEA include NBEA.org, the Association for Business Teaching and Research, and the National Business Honor Society. By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

NBEA may collect personal information that you voluntarily provide, including:

  • First and last name

  • Mailing address

  • Email address

  • Telephone number

  • Employer or school

  • Job title

  • Membership, professional-interest, and demographic information used to serve and communicate with NBEA members

If you purchase products or services, payment information may be collected and processed to complete the transaction. Payment-card information is generally processed by NBEA’s authorized payment-service providers.

NBEA may also collect demographic information, such as education level or other information used to understand and serve its membership. Some demographic information may not identify you by itself but may become identifiable when combined with other information.

You may provide information when you create an account, join or renew, register for an event, enter a contest, request information, submit a form, communicate with NBEA, participate in an online community, or purchase a product or service.

Please remember that information you disclose in public areas of an NBEA community, message board, or other interactive service may be viewed, collected, or used by others. Do not post information publicly that you do not want others to see.

How We Use Personal Information

NBEA may use personal information to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Services

  • Establish and administer memberships and accounts

  • Process registrations, purchases, payments, and deliveries

  • Provide requested programs, benefits, resources, and customer support

  • Send transactional communications, including confirmations, receipts, membership notices, and expiration or renewal notices

  • Inform you about NBEA programs, products, services, events, benefits, and opportunities

  • Personalize content and understand how the Services are used

  • Conduct surveys, statistical analysis, and organizational planning

  • Protect the security and integrity of NBEA’s systems and enforce applicable terms and policies

  • Comply with legal obligations

How We Share Personal Information

NBEA does not sell, rent, or lease its membership or customer lists to third parties.

NBEA may share personal information with contracted service providers that help deliver membership benefits and operate NBEA services, including membership, library, community, learning, event, payment, communications, fulfillment, and career services. These providers may use personal information only as necessary to provide contracted services, must maintain its confidentiality, and may not use it for their own commercial purposes without appropriate authorization.

Approved Regional Business Education Organizations

NBEA may share a member’s name and email address with approved regional business education organizations for the purpose of communicating about regional programs, professional-development opportunities, events, membership benefits, and other matters relevant to business education. These organizations must agree to protect the information, use it only for approved business education purposes, comply with applicable privacy and electronic-communications laws, and promptly honor unsubscribe and opt-out requests. They may not sell, rent, or disclose the information to other parties for unrelated purposes.

You may opt out of communications from a regional organization by using the unsubscribe link in its email or by contacting that organization directly. You may also contact NBEA using the information below for assistance with your communication preferences.

NBEA may share information with NBEA councils, affiliates, or other organizations through which you request or receive membership benefits.

NBEA is an official settlor of the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE), a nonprofit organization established to provide educators with economical insurance options and available discounts. NBEA may share general contact information with TIE so that eligible individuals can learn about these benefits. TIE is required to comply with applicable insurance regulations and to honor unsubscribe requests.

NBEA may occasionally work with an external business partner to present an offering that may be of interest to members. When personal information is transferred to such a partner, the partner must use it only for the approved purpose, maintain its confidentiality, and honor applicable communication preferences and unsubscribe requests.

NBEA may also disclose personal information when required by law or when NBEA has a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to comply with legal process; protect NBEA’s rights, property, systems, members, or users; investigate fraud or security concerns; or protect the safety of NBEA, its users, or the public.

Automatically Collected Information and User Activity

When you use the Services, NBEA and its service providers may automatically collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device or operating-system information, domain name, access time, referring website, pages visited, and interactions with the Services. NBEA may use this information to operate and improve the Services, maintain service quality and security, produce aggregate statistics, understand user interests, and provide relevant content or advertising.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

NBEA websites may use cookies and similar technologies to recognize returning users, remember preferences, support account and shopping functions, understand website use, and improve the user experience. A cookie is a small text file placed on a device by a web server; it cannot run programs or deliver viruses.

Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but browser settings can usually be changed to decline or delete them. Disabling cookies may prevent some features of the Services from functioning properly.

Email Communications and Choices

NBEA may send email concerning announcements, programs, promotional offers, alerts, confirmations, surveys, membership matters, and other organizational communications. NBEA or its service providers may receive information indicating whether an email was opened or a link was selected.

You may stop receiving NBEA marketing or promotional emails by selecting the “unsubscribe” or “opt out” link in the message or by contacting NBEA. Unsubscribing from promotional communications does not prevent NBEA from sending essential transactional or administrative messages, such as purchase confirmations, account notices, or membership expiration and renewal notices.

Third-Party Accounts and Services

The Services may allow you to connect an NBEA account with a third-party account or service. If you choose to connect accounts, information may be exchanged in accordance with your settings, your authorization, this Privacy Policy, and the third party’s privacy policy. Do not connect an account if you do not want information shared in this manner. Where available, you may disconnect a linked account or remove social-media profile information through your account settings.

Links to Other Websites

NBEA websites may contain links to websites operated by other organizations. NBEA is not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of those websites. Review the privacy policy of any third-party website that collects your personal information.

Data Storage and Security

NBEA may store or process information using contracted third-party hosting and technology providers. NBEA uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. These safeguards include encryption technologies such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) where appropriate and the use of payment vendors that comply with applicable Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

No method of transmission over the Internet, wireless network, or electronic-storage system is completely secure. NBEA therefore cannot guarantee the absolute security, integrity, or privacy of information transmitted to, from, or through the Services.

Children Under Thirteen

NBEA does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. A child under 13 should not use the Services or submit personal information without the permission and involvement of a parent or legal guardian. If NBEA learns that it has collected personal information directly from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, NBEA will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

NBEA may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When changes are made, NBEA will update the effective date and may provide notice through the Services, by email, or through another appropriate method when changes are significant. Continued use of the Services after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes acknowledgment of the revised policy.
