Business Teacher Education - Curriculum and Program Standards

A new edition will be published in the fall of 2026. Coming soon.

The NBEA Business Teacher Education Standards outline the preparatory training business educators need to fulfill their responsibility in the classroom. In accordance with its mission to encourage continuous improvement in the initial and advanced preparation of business teachers, NBEA has revised each of the key areas of the curriculum:

  • Professionalism
  • Curriculum development
  • Assessment and instruction
  • The classroom environment
  • Professional communication
  • Relationships with the business community and others
  • Career development
  • Subject competencies

In addition to setting standards for the education of business teachers, the standards delineate expectations for business teacher education programs and incorporate best practice standards from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

These standards are useful for conducting a comprehensive program evaluation leading to the improvement and enhancement of business teacher education.
